WHY READ?

                                                      WHY READ?

I have always loved to read, right from when I was four years old and begged my mom to teach me how. I loved listening to her read to me every day, and I dreamed of writing a book just like the one she was reading to me.

Books are ways to get out of our daily, mundane lives, and live in a world of possibilities, and adventure. We can be anybody or anything in our books. We can become that character that we had always wanted to be. I think that's why I love it so much. When I'm reading, I'm not longer the 39 year old, single, childless, woman; I'm suddenly everything I've always wanted to be.

My Mom instilled books into me straight from the womb, I think. She used to read to me all the time. I even remember my favorite book when I was little. It was called "Dirty Feet" and it was about a girl named Penelope. Gosh, I must have been four years old when I first got that book. It's cover was light blue, with a picture of a little girl stepping in a puddle. It was the most gorgeous thing I had ever seen in my short life, and it was also the most precious thing I owned. Nothing compared to that book.

It was then, that I knew that I wanted to be an author when I grew up. I wrote my first story when I was seven years old. It was a page long and it was called, "I Hate School!" It was about a girl named, Samantha, who hated school. I wish I still had that story, but I lost it many years ago during one of our family moves. (Just a note, I actually loved school!)

As I grew, I read almost every day, and began my collection of books when I was a young teenager. The first time I realized I wanted to collect books, was when I bought my first Janette Oke book. I was hooked!

My all time favorite book, though, has got to be, "Anne of Green Gables." I  watched the movie starring Megan Follows, when I was a child, and fell in love with the characters. (Especially, Gilbert Blythe!) Then, a few years later, I read the book for the first time. I enjoyed it so much, that as soon as I finished it, I started it over, again right away!

I have read a lot of different genres, including, Christian fiction/non-fiction, classics, fantasies, mysteries, suspense, romance, and yes, even some paranormal books. Right now, I'm trying to read more YA novels.

So, why read? Because it makes you FEEL GOOD!

        HAPPY READING!

Summer goals

I was just thinking about what I plan on doing this summer. The most important thing is STAY COOL. I hate being hot. I love the sun, but seriously? Does it have to get so stinking hot? I sweat . . . err, glisten . . . real easily, so I don't like being hot. I don't have air conditioning in my apartment, though I do have one fan that I am already using. Aw well. I guess I can't always have my way, eh? (I know, but I had to say it. I'm Canadian, eh?) Anyways, here's a few goals of mine this summer: (1) read more - - - I would like to read a lot more books. I have about 300 books on my Kobo, plus about 50 physical copies I haven't read, yet. Not to mention, all the books I want to reread. Whew! Yep, that's definitely a goal of mine. (2) write 20 000 words of "Hooked Forever" - - - I want to write this during the summer. I would love to write more than that, but, you know? (3) Babysit more - - - I love to look after children and I intend to...
ME? A WRITER?      Hi! My name is Cheryl Gilmore, and I am a writer. Yes, I finally said it. I AM A WRITER. This one statement took me almost thirty three years to say out loud.      It happened, today. I was watching a YouTube video on writing and the guy said, "If you write, then you are a writer. Simple as that."      That got me. Yes, I write, and yes I want to be published someday, but am I, really, a writer?      I don't understand all the grammar rules and exceptions in writing, even though I got A's in my English courses. (I would usually study my butt off for a test, then completely forgot everything when it was over.) But, I do know, I love to write. (Okay, I know I'm repeating that word over and ...

Meet Kassa-Leigh

This is a picture I found on Pexel. Meet Kassa-Leigh Ana Williams. She is the main character in my novel, "Hooked Forever." This book starts out when Kassa-Leigh is seven years old. Her daddy had just died of a heart attack, and her mommy doesn't know how to handle the loss. The story goes on to show the struggles of single parenting, and eventually neglect and abuse of a little girl. This young beauty finally runs away, and meets Nikka, a girl her age. Together, they start a life at a  modern brothel. But, God has other plans for Kassa-Leigh and Nikka, and they discover the love of strangers, friends they never knew they had, and the love of God.
