                                 ME? A WRITER?

Hi! My name is Cheryl Gilmore, and I am a writer. Yes, I finally said it. I AM A WRITER. This one statement took me almost thirty three years to say out loud.

It happened, today. I was watching a YouTube video on writing and the guy said, "If you write, then you are a writer. Simple as that."

That got me. Yes, I write, and yes I want to be published someday, but am I, really, a writer?

I don't understand all the grammar rules and exceptions in writing, even though I got A's in my English courses. (I would usually study my butt off for a test, then completely forgot everything when it was over.) But, I do know, I love to write. (Okay, I know I'm repeating that word over and over again, but bear with me!)

So, I wrote a book about seventeen years ago. Yes, people, seventeen years! I have rewritten it one time, but have started to rewrite it several times. Today, I realized that it is about time to make my dream come true, and finally write the next draft.

The book is called, "Hooked Forever." It is about a teenage girl who runs away from an abusive home, and gets caught up in the life of a prostitute. This is a topic that I believe needs to be addressed more. I am a born again Christian, so this novel is written in a tasteful way, with no swear words, and as little sexual content as I can put in a book about a prostitute.

Another thing I wanted to do, was start a writer and reader blog. So, that's what I'm doing right now!

I have watched a lot of YouTube videos and have read numerous blogs about writing, and I feel I have some things I would like to contribute. So, here I am, sitting in my recliner chair, with my laptop, and a bag of Barbeque chips, trying to decide how to start this all. I don't really know what I'm doing, but since when did that ever stop me?

One thing I have noticed about what people often say about writing, is that you should "Write what you know." I find that kinda funny, because, I really don't know much! I definitely didn't know about prostitution when I first wrote "Hooked Forever."  I just decided that it was a story that had a message that had to be told, so I did the research. I think, you should write what you are passionate about. It doesn't matter if you don't know much about the topic; It's only important that you "need" to tell that story inside of you. You know, the story that eating you your heart up, and throwing it into the pit of your stomach. (Hey, that was pretty good, huh?) But, seriously, I'm telling you the truth when I say, "Write what you need to write about."

It also doesn't matter whether you have a special degree in writing. Sure, it helps, but what is important is that you WRITE. My favorite quote is, "Do your best, and let God do the rest!"

So, that's my first advice. If you want to write, then just do it. That's what I have found out today. I needed to hear it, so I thought there might be some other people who needed to hear it, as well.

Good luck with your writing, and God bless you in all you do!

                                            Love in Christ,

                                             Cheryl Lynette Gilmore

  1. Cheryl keep going. This is amazing and so inspirational! I am following your blog.
I love your idea of a book. Have you watched the movie Priceless? It was in that spectrum, and a very well done movie that showed as little as possible while still making a profound point.

  2. Thank you, Anna! You area my first follower . . . Woohoo! No, I've never seen that movie, but it seems like something I would be interested in. I think prostitution, and ways to get out of that kind of life, is an important topic that needs to be discussed, even among Christians. Sometimes, it seems like Christians are scared to talk about hard subjects like this, and I feel that is wrong. We are here on this earth to show God's love to EVERYONE. Thanks, again, for your support, Anna. God bless you in all you do.

    1. I agree with you so much on this. Many times we sweep things under the rug instead of facing them and we as Christians should through love should be addressing these issues as one entity, working together and following God's call. In my book I write a part that relates to this, we often focus on being a perfect single puzzle piece when we are part of a huge puzzle that God is building. We just need to be willing pieces. :)
Cheryl thanks again, you are doing something wonderful and you have no idea how much you inspire me. God bless you too and everything you undertake <3

When I watched that movie I was left heartbroken, it is a Christian movie so it left me even more moved.

Summer goals

I was just thinking about what I plan on doing this summer. The most important thing is STAY COOL. I hate being hot. I love the sun, but seriously? Does it have to get so stinking hot? I sweat . . . err, glisten . . . real easily, so I don't like being hot. I don't have air conditioning in my apartment, though I do have one fan that I am already using. Aw well. I guess I can't always have my way, eh? (I know, but I had to say it. I'm Canadian, eh?) Anyways, here's a few goals of mine this summer: (1) read more - - - I would like to read a lot more books. I have about 300 books on my Kobo, plus about 50 physical copies I haven't read, yet. Not to mention, all the books I want to reread. Whew! Yep, that's definitely a goal of mine. (2) write 20 000 words of "Hooked Forever" - - - I want to write this during the summer. I would love to write more than that, but, you know? (3) Babysit more - - - I love to look after children and I intend to...

Meet Kassa-Leigh

This is a picture I found on Pexel. Meet Kassa-Leigh Ana Williams. She is the main character in my novel, "Hooked Forever." This book starts out when Kassa-Leigh is seven years old. Her daddy had just died of a heart attack, and her mommy doesn't know how to handle the loss. The story goes on to show the struggles of single parenting, and eventually neglect and abuse of a little girl. This young beauty finally runs away, and meets Nikka, a girl her age. Together, they start a life at a  modern brothel. But, God has other plans for Kassa-Leigh and Nikka, and they discover the love of strangers, friends they never knew they had, and the love of God.
