CHAPTER 1 of Living The Game

This is a sneak peek at my novel, "Living The Game." Hope you enjoy it! CHAPTER 1 OLIVIA I don’t belong here on earth. For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt that way; like I wasn’t meant to be born. I was a mistake, as my mom often reminded me. My parents were young when I was conceived, barely out of high school. My Grandpa, Mom’s dad, threatened my dad with his life if he didn’t marry his pregnant girlfriend. Neither she nor he wanted to get married, but they were scared not to. I was born, seven months later. For nine years, I was told I wasn’t wanted. My dad left us two years after they married, and my mom blamed me for that right from the start. She began to hit me, starting with a simple slap in the face, and ending with me in the hospital. It happened when I was nearly ten years old. I had been late getting home from school because I was held in detention after cl

Life Update and Living The Game

LIFE UPDATE: HI! I haven't written anything in so long! I am so sorry. I hope to contribute more to my blog  more often now.      So, what's been going on in my life this last year? Well, I babysat a wonderful little girl full time for about a year before she moved to a different city. I love her and still keep in contact with her. In fact, I'm going to go see her in about a week to spend three glorious days with her and her parents. I am so darn excited! She had become like a daughter to me and I miss her deeply.       Since the last time I blogged, I started two YouTube channels! Knit and Crochet With a Gilmoregirl is a knitting and crocheting podcast. Join me if you would like to! I currently have forty-seven subscribers from all over the world. I love doing this podcast. I've been doing everything yarny for quite a while now, and I love sharing my passion with other people.       My second YouTube channel is a booktube. You can find it by searching, C

Nanowrimo

Hellllooo|! I haven't written in this blog for so long!! I have other blogs, as well, but I haven't done much in any of them recently. My bad!      So, I'm babysitting a lot, knitting, crocheting, reading, and writing every day, and these things keep me pretty busy. My big news is that I am officially signed up for Nanowrimo! Yes, I am actually participating in national novel writing month in November. I am so excited! This is my first time doing this competition, and I am so psyched! I don't know if I will be able to complete the 50 000 words challenge, but I'm going to do my best.      I am outlining a new novel as we speak. It will be a love story, with a bit of drama and tear jerking scenes. I do my best writing when I have to write sad scenes! LOL.   In other news, I am finally reading, "The Book Thief," and I am enjoying it immensely! I've seen both good and bad reviews of this book, so I decided to see for myself whether I would like it. I

The Phone Call That Changed My Life

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009 This was the day my life came crashing down. I woke up to the phone ringing. I looked at my clock. It read 7:32 a..m. Who would be calling me this early? As I leaned over to pick up the phone, my heart began to beat wildly. I knew who it was. "Hello?" I said in a voice that sounded braver than I felt.      "Mommy's gone home, baby."       Those words of my dad's still haunt me to this day, eight years later. My mom, my best friend, had died.       We knew she was dying. We knew it was time, but it was still a shock to hear the news. My mom, my supporter, my fighter, my friend, was now gone. Mom stood up for me so many times, when teachers, psychiatrists, doctors, principals, and so called friends and family, criticized me. She was the reason I didn't commit suicide when I was a teenager. She was my reason to live. Now, she was gone. What do I do? I thought. How am I going to live without her?        To this da

Summer goals

I was just thinking about what I plan on doing this summer. The most important thing is STAY COOL. I hate being hot. I love the sun, but seriously? Does it have to get so stinking hot? I sweat . . . err, glisten . . . real easily, so I don't like being hot. I don't have air conditioning in my apartment, though I do have one fan that I am already using. Aw well. I guess I can't always have my way, eh? (I know, but I had to say it. I'm Canadian, eh?) Anyways, here's a few goals of mine this summer: (1) read more - - - I would like to read a lot more books. I have about 300 books on my Kobo, plus about 50 physical copies I haven't read, yet. Not to mention, all the books I want to reread. Whew! Yep, that's definitely a goal of mine. (2) write 20 000 words of "Hooked Forever" - - - I want to write this during the summer. I would love to write more than that, but, you know? (3) Babysit more - - - I love to look after children and I intend to

Official Beta Reader/Thoughts of the Day

I am an official Beta Reader! Yaaaaayyyy! I am so excited to be reading a book from a UK writer that I met on Twitter. I must say, Twitter is wonderful. I don't know why I had never gone on it before yesterday. I now have 3 followers! (Hey, don't laugh!)      Anyways, I will also be an Alpha reader, which I think is the same thing as a Beta Reader, for a wonderful young lady I met here on  my blog. I have contacted other authors and hope to make this a part time job. Even if I don't get paid for it, this is a great opportunity to meet other writers, and give feedback on their books.      I just read a blog from Quills and Coffee, where she spoke of the need for clean books to read. I agree that this is important, especially for young adults, and new Christians. We should stand up for our rights to be able to read a good book, without having to challenge our thought life as a believer in Christ. Sin is sin, no matter how small, and reading something that contradicts

Pasting . . . How do you do it?

Okay, I feel stupid! I've pasted things from one page to another, before, but this time it's not working! So, help me, please! I want to copy and paste some of my novel onto this blog. I tried control C on my story, then Control V on the blog, but it didn't work. What am I doing wrong? As, you can tell, I'm kinda technically challenged when it comes to computers. Please, if anyone reading this knows what I am doing wrong, let me know? Thank you!
